Lowell/Dracut bridge to open in July
The Massachusetts Highway Department’s resident engineer for the region expects the much-delayed reconstruction of the O’Donnell Bridge over the Merrimack River to be done by early July.
The news came in a letter written by MassHighway Engineer Mark Fedele in reply to a motion from Councilor Richard Howe, who is critical of the project’s holdups. Councilors received it before their meeting last night.

Are you ready for some Footb… Lacrosse? Dracut starts Lacrosse Program
Dracut Lacrosse program becomes a reality. The dream of a school-managed lacrosse program is barely a week from becoming a reality.
Tim Woods, the high school’s athletic director, told the School Committee this week that he hopes both the boys and girls teams will have their first games on April 11, weather permitting.
On Aug. 9, the committee unanimously approved the one-year, privately funded pilot program, which will be administered by the school district.

The Sun adds 2 local residents’ comics
Today, The Sun announces two new comics strips drawn by a pair of Dracut residents, 12-year-old Alex Cope and Bob Conroy, who is 52.
Despite their difference in age, Cope and Conroy share a passion for cartooning. I believe readers will enjoy their special talents in the comic strips they have created, Cope’s “On the Playgound†and Conroy’s “Pink Slip.â€

Sophomore standout Groswald tied for first in floor exercise (9.2), placed second on the uneven bars (9.1) and second on balance beam (8.8) in a close MVC win over Chelmsford. In a tough loss to Central Catholic yesterday, which produced a school-record 139.00 score, Groswald was first all-around (36.50), first on bars (9.2), first on beam (9.2), second in floor (9.3) and she scored 8.8 in vault.
Iby, a junior, was second in vault (8.8) and fourth in floor (8.75) versus Chelmsford while against Central she placed second in vault with a career-high 9.1 and tied for third in floor (8.9).
