Dracut Crash Victim Raymond Castonguay, Needs Your Help
It will be a long time before Raymond Castonguay recovers from the injuries he suffered when he was struck by a pickup truck while riding his motorcycle in Dracut earlier this year, but he does intend to recover, no matter how long it takes.
In the meantime, some of Castonguay’s fellow bikers are planning a flea market, motorcycle
run, and barbecue on Aug. 20 to support Castonguay’s wife and four children, who have lost their primary bread winner.
The family needs help, especially since Castonguay did not have health insurance when he was struck head-on by a pickup truck, crushed against a tree, and then run over again when the driver who struck him attempted to flee the scene, according to court records.
Castonguay, 34, of Nashua, was left with an amputated leg, a collapsed lung, a pelvis that’s broken in three places, and bruises and tears in seven internal organs that initially forced doctors to keep him on a respirator, his wife, Joyan Castonguay, has said.
The benefit for the truck driver and his family will start at 9 a.m., with a flea market at Pub Thirty-Something, 174 Frost Road, Tyngsboro. Anyone who wants to donate any items to the flea market can drop them off next to the trailer on the right hand side of Pub Thirty-Something.
At 10 a.m., a motorcycle run to Manchester, N.H., Salem, N.H., and back to Tyngsboro will begin. When the ride ends about 3:30 p.m., everyone will meet at Pub Thirty-Something for a Barbecue.
At that time, there will be raffles, games, an auction and RJ’s Motorsports, of Nashua, will have their Dino Machine for bikes.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Pub Tshirty-Something, or on the day of the event.
For more information call Pub Thirty-Something at (978) 649-3040.

Dracut Man Held for Raping Daughter’s Friend
A father of three has been charged with rape over allegations of having a sexual relationship with his daughter’s 13-year-old friend.
Kevin Migneault, 36, of Dracut, had sex with the girl multiple times between April 2004 and September 2004, prosecutors said. Migneault pleaded not guilty Friday in Lowell District Court to charges of rape of a child with force, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, distribution of a controlled substance, and dissemination of obscene matter.
Marijuana and pornographic material were also used in the alleged incidents in Migneault’s car and home, prosecutors said. He was held on $50,000 bail. Migneault is scheduled back in court Aug. 19.

Dunkin’ Donuts Not Welcomed in Dracut?
Even with the promise of new tax revenue, new jobs, new sidewalks and a host of traffic improvements, several selectmen remain unconvinced that a proposed Dunkin’ Donuts on Broadway Road is a good idea.
While proponents of the project say that they have satisfied every concern that has been brought before them, the board unanimously agreed that they could not vote on the special permit until next month, when a written list of conditions will be prepared.
After hearing remarks from Selectmen Joe DiRocco and Robert Cox, Evans Huber, an attorney for proponent Gildas Bettencourt, said if the vote on Aug. 16 goes against his client, the matter could end up back in court.
The board denied a special permit in 2002 prompting Bettencourt to file a lawsuit against the town. After several years of legal wrangling, Bettencourt came back in January with a modified proposal that includes paying for significant traffic improvements at the corner of Broadway Road and Fox Avenue. Bettencourt, who owns three Dunkin’ Donuts, including one in Dracut and two in Pelham, has also agreed to design changes in the parking lot as recommended by Fire Chief Leo Gaudette.

Dracut Funeral Home in crematory lawsuit
Over a dozen named for using N.H. facility
By DENNIS SHAUGHNESSEY, Sun Staff
DRACUT — Dracut Funeral Home is one of 18 defendants named in a class-action suit charging that they “turned a willful blind eye†to the mishandling of remains at a New Hampshire crematory.
At the center of the suit is Bayview Crematory of Seabrook, N.H., which was shut down in February after police discovered serious violations there, including unlabeled urns filled with ashes, two bodies stuffed into a single oven, a body rotting in a broken freezer and a trash bin heaped with charred pacemakers, hip replacements and prosthetics.
The suit, filed in federal court in Boston on Wednesday by Lerach, Coughlin, Stoia, Geller, Rudman & Robbins LLP, a Melville, N.Y., law firm, charges that the funeral-home operators ignored Bayview’s practice of commingling bodies during cremation and mishandling the remains.
The Bayview Crematory had been operating without a license since at least
1999 until it was closed down by authorities, who also seized financial records.
Mark Gacek, the owner of the Dracut Funeral Home, did not return repeated phone calls to the funeral home or his residence.

State Rep. Colleen Garry Goin after Convicted Rapists
A person who is the victim of rape or sexual assault should have the right to know whether their convicted attacker is carrying the virus that causes AIDS, according to one state lawmaker.
State Rep. Colleen Garry, D-Dracut, has proposed a bill that would require every person convicted of rape or sexual assault to be tested for the human immunodeficiency virus, and the results to be available to their victims.
“Victims need to know or have some assurances,” Rep. Garry said. “They have the right to know the status of the convicted person.”
Garry’s bill, which she has proposed in prior legislative sessions but which has not met with the approval of her colleagues, is to be considered by the legislative Committee on Public Health today. Read the rest of this entry »
Small Fire at the Hometown Restaurant

“Looked a lot worse than it was,†Deputy Fire Chief Mike Ralls said., The fire started in a grill in the restaurant at 1084 Lakeview Ave. about 4 p.m.
The blaze initially came across as a building fire in a commercial strip, which had fire officials calling for all available engines. But workers already had extinguished the flames when firefighters arrived, Ralls said.
